Feeling a bit spoiled

This is my vacation office. Hyatt, rained in, OrlandoIn more than one way. We decided to take advantage of both having Labor Day off and having two free nights at Hyatt that needed to be used by the end of the month. The Universe disagreed, the skies decided to open up, and we were not allowed to enjoy our luxe accommodation from anywhere other than inside the room. I guess we didn’t really need a quickie vacation.

I am hoping to take advantage of their three acres of lush landscaping and their enormous pool (which I am told by my sons is actually three pools) in the morning, before the predicted rains come back in the afternoon.

Instead of feeling spoiled by such nice accommodations, my day has been spoiled. So we’re making the best of a bad situation. The boys are in the room next door (two free nights = two rooms and one night instead) and we’re with the girl watching movies and killing some time before the Chinese delivery gets here.

View from the 23rd floor of the Hyatt Regency Orlando, now with more rain!Because if my family is staying at a Hyatt, we are going to be rained in. On. In. Same difference. It’s a thing with historical precedence. To be fair, it has rained almost every time we’ve come to Orlando this summer. So maybe it’s just an Orlando thing? The weekend we stayed in Naples last summer, Naples got record rainfall. The streets were flooded. We stayed in watching movies. See, it’s a thing.

My boys have explored the hotel. They have been excited to be on the 23rd floor and just as quickly got over it. I don’t think they’ve ever been so high up in Florida in their lives. They have checked out the gym, and the pools, and discovered the tennis courts (which we can see from our window). They have come in and told me they are bored because we’ve been here since 4:30 doing nothing. I don’t want to go out in the yuck to hit up Hollywood Studios, (which I still call MGM) which I dislike almost as much as Universal Studios, to come back soaked and miserable. I’m just skipping the middle man at this point. I am hoping so hard that the sun really does come out tomorrow (sing with me!) and we can go swimming the morning and go to a dry Hollywood Studios in the afternoon before we head back home and get back to school/work/everything else on Tuesday.

chandelierThe Hyatt Regency Orlando is gorgeous. That said, I’ve already told my children not to be impressed. We’ve stayed in better, we’ve stayed in worse, and at the end of the day, it’s a used bed in a room with a revolving door. Let’s call a spade a spade, ya know? They have a lovely chandelier in the common area. They have a spa we aren’t able to take advantage of being on property this trip. We’re using the complimentary wifi. I’ve taken advantage of the complimentary late check out. My Hyatt Passport rewards card has come in handy for something other than racking up points to maybe get another free night because I’ve spent 10,000$ on my Hyatt credit card ;) The hotel room would cost less out of pocket. Isn’t that always the way?
